FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions

Could you please provide more insight into the environmental impact and sustainability of Wattstones compared to imported PV mounting systems made of aluminum or plastic?

Yes, the production of concrete, especially cement, emits too much CO2. We are already working intensively on this. However, the regionally produced Wattstones still perform better in the overall balance than most PV mounts made of aluminum or plastic. The latter are almost exclusively imported from the Far East by sea or air and then need to be additionally weighted down with paving slabs made of CO2-emitting concrete, otherwise they would fly away. Therefore, the ballasting also occurs with comparable products using concrete.

What are PV modules?

PV modules, also known as solar cells or solar panels, consist of several solar cells connected in series that convert sunlight into electrical energy.

How do PV modules work?

PV modules convert incoming sunlight into direct current using the photovoltaic effect. This direct current can then be converted into alternating current suitable for household use by an inverter.

What is a PV power plant?

A PV power plant is a larger facility that consists of a variety of PV modules and generates large amounts of solar energy. These power plants can be used for feeding into the power grid or for self-consumption.

How large is a typical PV power plant?

The size of a PV power plant can vary greatly. It can occupy an area of just a few square meters for a small system on a rooftop to several hectares for large ground-mounted systems.

What is balcony PV or a balcony power plant?

Balcony PV refers to small solar systems that are specifically designed for use on balconies or terraces. They are compact and easy to install, allowing residents to generate their own solar power.

How much electricity can a balcony PV system generate?

The performance of balcony PV systems can vary depending on size and sunlight exposure. Typically, they can generate enough electricity to cover the consumption of electrical devices such as lamps, laptops, or mobile phones.

What advantages do solar panels offer?

Solar panels allow for the conversion of solar energy into clean and renewable electrical energy. They reduce the need for conventional electricity, lower energy costs, and contribute to environmental protection.

How long do PV modules last?

The lifespan of PV modules is typically between 25 to 30 years. During this time, the performance of the modules gradually decreases, but they can still deliver a significant portion of their original capacity.

Do PV modules require a lot of maintenance?

PV modules generally require minimal maintenance. However, occasional cleaning of the surface, checking the electrical connections, and regular inspections can optimize the performance and lifespan of the modules.
